Wisdom: What Should You Post Online.

How to find out what is said about you online is presented at the bottom of this article.

I share tons of wisdom for being successful in life in my best-selling book “Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom,” but, you must read the book to discover the hidden secrets for success.

Today, I want to give you some FREE Tips and Wisdom about using the Internet to be successful.

First -- It is important to play it safe online. Be smart. Don’t post anything you may regret.

In example:

If you’re mad wait a day before you send an email or post comments on any of the social networking sites: twitter, facebook, myspace, blogspot, ning, youtube, tumbr, and many more. Once that email is sent or that post is posted it is there.

But realize that these sites can be very beneficial to your professional success.

Here is an example:

You already know that these online sites are wonderful for networking. They can help you catch up with old friends and make new friends.

Plus -- They can even help you to find a perfect job and so much more. I use these sites to promote my profession and have received many personal emails of thanks from people.

Here are some examples of praise I’ve received that show how social networks can be beneficial for professionals:

  • Hi Danny! What a great idea to have this [myspace] page! How in the world do you
    find the time to seek out other rec therapists? It’s great! (2006).

  • I love the passion. [commenting on rec therapy myspace page
    (2006).

  • Excited about your [myspace] site [for recreational therapists] – you rock. (2006)

  • Thanks so much for your support!!! I appreciate it! [after posting info. for a rec therapist]

  • Once a woman replied how I helped her find the perfect job for her. She thanked me and said that had it not been for my myspace for RTs that she'd never have discovered the job. Regret to say that I can't find her email right now.

Of course, all of these were from myspace. Based on my personal experiences many people aren't using myspace now. They're on facebook. Some have even left facebook for Twitter, which seems to be the new thing for many. Expect there will be something new in the future, too. The net is always changing.

Advice and Tips for Online:

  • Check your privacy settings on your personal social sites. See who can view them. Make changes to protect your privacy.

  • Google yourself and see what results come up. Was listening to the local Magic 97.9 Radio (Huntington, West Virginia) on my way to work one day. D.J. – J.B. Miller said that he googled himself online one day and discovered pictures from the 80s that he didn’t remember. They were pictures of him painting that were taken for an article in a magazine or newspaper back in the 80s. Google yourself and see what results show up. Have read that some employers will google a person before interviewing them. Make sure the results are good. If not, work at getting sites changed.

  • Also go to LinkedIn. You can create an account there. However, I noticed that LinkedIn had already posted information about me before I started an account. Somehow their site had obtained knowledge about me and posted it. You can create an account and make changes.

What Does The Net Say About You?

  • Finally, my friend Nancy M. from Minnesota posted about an interesting site called Spokeo.com. I’d rather call it Spooky-dot-com. It reveals a lot of information. My friend Nancy said, “I realize my hubby needed to change security settings on his facebook and delete his myspace. Also, you can go to the privacy button at the bottom of the spokeo.com page and choose to have your information removed from that site, too.

Hope you enjoyed this free wisdom for being safe online.

As a reminder, if you want to discover more hidden wisdom and secrets on success then I highly recommend that you check out my book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom: A Recreational Therapist’s System on How You Can Become Great at Anything!

ATRA - New List Serv

Recreational therapists --

I highly recommend that you join the new list serv for recreational therapists by the American Therapeutic Recreation Association with OK University.

There have been constant updates.

I posted my first question today by sending an email to the list serve. I asked for people from N.C., N.H., O.K., or Utah to contact me regarding the process for obtaining state licensure in Rec Therapy. Several recreational therapists in W.Va. are wanting to start this process.

Received emails from two people from two different states who are interested in presenting. This is wonderful news. The list-serv is going to work wonders for recreational therapists in our field.

All you have to do is:

Send email to: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.OKSTATE.EDU
In first line of message: type “SUBSCRIBE ATRANET-L”

Here are the main rules:

RULES:

1. Only subscribers may post on ATRAnet. This will cut back on spam, viruses, etc.

2. Attachments must be smaller than 250K. It is suggested that you type the majority of text in email and send
attachment to individual users.

3. We do not allow advertising with the exception of information that could be useful to other subscribers for
practice, educational or research purposes.

4. All subscribers must be respectful of other members in the course of dialogue.
ATRA and Oklahoma State have the right to remove individuals from ATRAnet if a person violates the rules.

Gandhi is my hero.

~~~ Click here for Gandhi Stuff ~~~
Recently read the new book "The Leader Who Had No Title." It was fable on leadership and lessons for life by Robin Sharma.
The lessons and concepts reminded me of a real life leader who had no title.
He was Gandhi.
Gandhi lived most of his life without a title. He stood for many things, including: freedom, nonviolence, peace, truth, and overall goodness. When he died in 1948, he didn't have a fancy title. He didn't have riches or property. He wasn't the owner of a large company. He wasn't a ruler of a nation or armies. He was a leader with no title.
I once had my full name with all my titles listed at the bottom of my emails at work. I'm going to post it here for an example:
Danny W. Pettry, II, MS, CTRS, Recreational Therapist (for the blank and blank programs) at such and such hospital in a Wonderful State, USA.
Laugh aloud.
I changed the settings for my email. Now it only says:
your friend,
Danny
Think this is better. I have been trying to lead without a title.
I don't need to be the CEU of the hospital or the Director of whatever.
I can be a real leader in my own position. using the principles from Robin's book.
Recently, I rewatched the Gandhi film, which always inspires me.
New Book: What is the Shadow Effect?
In my book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom, I argue that wisdom is buried in books. You must be an avid reader in order to discover the secrets.
Today, I want to tell you about a must-read book that is chockfull of wisdom on the most crucial obstacles of happiness we face.
Three of my favorite best-selling authors, Deepak Chopra, Debbie Ford, and Marianne Williamson have joined together to share their knowledge in their new book, “The Shadow Effect.”
These three luminaries, each with a signature approach, bring to light the parts of ourselves we deny but that still direct our life. For it is only when we embrace our shadow that we discover the gifts of our authentic nature.
The shadow exists within all of us. It is a part of us and yet we spend most of our life running from it. But far from being scary, our dark side holds the promise of a better, more fulfilling life. Our shadow makes itself known every day. It is the reason we get furious over a friend showing up ten minutes late, yell at our parents or kids when they have done nothing wrong, and sabotage our own success at the worst possible time. Until we are able to embrace our dualistic nature, we will continue to hurt ourselves and those closest to us and fall short of our potential.
Combining the wisdom of three experts, The Shadow Effect is a practical and profound guide to discovering the gifts of our shadow. These three authors powerfully pierce the veil of our unclaimed self, releasing us from the past and propelling us on a journey to wholeness. No longer living a half life, we are capable of achieving our dreams and reclaiming the happiness that is our birthright.
Chocolate may be linked to depression
Read an article on CNN regarding one of my favorite things, chocolate.
It says that eating chocolate could be linked to depression.
Eating it may cause a person to feel good instantly -- but people often feel worse in the long-term because of the cal. of the chocolate.
Maybe people who are depressed eat more chocolate. or is chocolate associated with increasing feelings of depression in the long run?
Read article here:
http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/04/26/chocolate.depression/index.html?hpt=Sbin
West Virginia leads nation in smoking
West Virginia leads the nation is most smokers.
The CNN smoking state statistics claim that 26.5 percent of the people in W.Va. smoke.
I'm a non-smoker in W.Va., but I do know many people who smoke.
I find it interesting that our friends to the east in the Old Dominion, Virginia, have one of the lowest percentages of smokers in the nation. A lot changes when you cross the border from Virginia into West Virginia.
Beleive Indiana was 2nd with 26% of their population smoking.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/04/26/smoking.state.statistics/index.html?hpt=Sbin
Think the overall number of smokers will decrease in the future.
Based on my expeirences, it seems like younger generations don't think that smoking is all that cool. At least, I hope this opinion is right.
Discover Danny's Dirty Little Secret.
In my book, "Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom," I argue that people can discover hidden secrets by reading books.
Today, I want to take just a couple of minutes to let you in on my dirty little secret. Hah - It's not really dirty - but it is a secret.
Here is my secret.... I've read Dõv Baron's new book on making money.
These secrets could make this absolutely your BEST YEAR EVER!
-- But You've Got to Read The Book to Discover the Secrets:
(You may have heard that before … many times, even. But it has never been truer!)
Let’s face it – most of us have NOWHERE NEAR as much money as we’d like.
Even those who are considered “well off” would like to have more, in order to do more of the good things money makes possible:
*** Travel…
*** Charitable donations…
*** Education for the kids…
*** A new home for the folks (or even just to afford them the best medical care!)
*** A spare vehicle…
…or just a nice dinner & show evening, once a week!
And although there’s no lack of books out there on “how to make money” (I know – I’ve read a LOT of them) … most are almost impossible to follow, or are written by people who don’t HAVE the wealth they say YOU can achieve.
And so we want, want, want … but never seem to GET.
Well, all that ends today!
…because Dõv Baron has finished writing what I consider just about the BEST book EVER on how YOU can open the floodgates and have wealth begin flowing directly to you in almost no time at all.
Now Dõv Baron may not be a household name yet … but he certainly SHOULD be!
For over 25 years now, Dõv Baron – radio and television personality, speaker, and author – has been coaching corporate heads, organizations, and individuals from around the world how to MULTIPLY (not merely “increase”) their productivity and income.
And now, in this new book, Dõv dispels the countless “money myths” that have been quietly holding you back all these years…
…then shares his secret strategies YOU can use, beginning right now, to start attracting money to you like you’ve never experienced before.
The secrets he reveals in “Don’t Read This … Unless You Want More Money” are so powerful … yet so simple to put to immediate use…
You can finally begin to believe once again in all those big dreams you used to entertain.
Now Dõv would be the first to tell you … most of what he shares here is nothing new.
In fact, it has been known for many HUNDREDS of years … but only to a relative handful of people.
So to call these the “secrets” of creating wealth … quickly, easily, and simply … is really no stretch. To MOST of society, they have ALWAYS BEEN SECRET.
Now look, I’m certainly not trying to “convince” you to buy this book ... but, as a friend, I’d consider it irresponsible if I didn’t say…
Go check it out for yourself, at least … right now, right here:
*** PLEASE NOTE ***
When I was on Dõv’s website he was giving away an absolutely INSANE collection of gifts for FREE … just for buying his book before the cut-off date (which I believe is quickly approaching).
So you want to get over there “P.D.Q.” before he pulls down this offer!
Sure, the book itself is worth every penny, and more … IF you put to use what Dõv shows you.
But there really are some definitely SWEET bonus gifts in that bundle, and I suggest you grab them all while you still can … IF you still can!
Hey, don’t take just MY word for it, if you don’t want to – go visit Dõv’s website and see what others are saying about him and this book.
Beckley, WV -- Obama pays tribute to fallen miners.
Here is some wisdom for life... Life is short. make the best of it.
Today, President Obama paid tribute to the fallen miners in my hometown, Beckley, West Virginia earlier today.
Appreciate Obama’s kind words for the miners and their families. Found his speech to be very inspirational and uplifting.
Obama addressed many issues related to West Virginia.
Coal keeps the lights on.
Miners work to support their families.
Hold mining companies accountable.
Review of Robin Sharma's "The Leader Who Had No Title."
Want to recommend a highly inspirational and motivating book.
It’s called, “The Leader Who Had No Title.” It's a fable on success in business and in life.
Briefly, the story is about a man named Blake who had been a soldier who had fought for U.S. freedom over in Ira. Blake has returned to the U.S. and works at a bookstore. Blake isn’t happy with his life.
Fortunately, Blake meets an elder man named Tommy who works at the bookstore. Tommy is very successful in both life and business. Tommy becomes Blake’s personal mentor for one day.
Tommy introduces Blake to four people who believe in the “Lead Without a Title” (LWT) philosophy. Each of these four people shares a valuable lesson for Tommy. The lessons are easy to remember because they’re all acronyms.
This story isn’t just on being a leader in the business world. It’s more of a book on becoming a better person. It focuses on self-development, being your best, living a meaningful life and leaving behind a legacy.
While Tommy is teaching Blake, I felt like I was in Tommy’s shoes getting all the wisdom from Blake myself. It encouraged me to act and behave in different ways while I was at my job. The book directly encouraged me to be more of a real leader.
Here is a quick video review of the book for your entertainment:
These kids don't go to school!?
Yahoo news had a video of topic on “Extreme Parenting.”
Basically these children are not being schooled in the traditional manner.
In my book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom,” I suggested that children should have a block of leisure learning. This isn’t recess. This is a time when a child could participate in a leisure interest. Believe people learn more in during their leisure and through choices.
Don’t think that simply wasting time being idle is a good idea. Believe that child must be active in some activity during this leisure learning.
One person worried about her daughter staying up all night. Some people are night-people. There are many nurses, police officers, and wal-mart employees who work 11:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. The child may be a person who is more apt to be more productive during these hours.
Believe more people should follow their leisure and passions. Bill Gates dropped out of college to start Mircrosoft. But you know good and well that he had spent hours and hours dedicated to computers during his free time.
Many parents home school their child so they can participate in training for Olympics, acting in movies, etc. These children will perfect their talent in one area and could make millions. Believe the child should still have a back-up plan. An unexpected car accident could prevent the child from participating in training and world championship skiing.
Believe the best two parts of traditional schooling include:
1.) repetition of basic subjects: reading comprehension, ability to write, and solve problems (including math) throughout the years
2.) access to social interaction with peers.
What would you do during your day if you didn’t have to go to school as a teenager? Think I would have spent a lot of time skateboarding. Believe traditional schooling was best for me (but wish I did have a class of leisure learning or leisure education). Believe a class like this could help people to learn about their leisure interests and to follow their passions, which could be a full-time job.
Answer this question: If you could spend one full day in a great library studying anything you wanted: what would you read about? What would you go to learn about? This could give you some insight.
Writing could improve reading skills
Believe reading is the key to succeeding. That was the full concept of my book, “Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom.” It was a self-improvement book with the subtitle, “A Recreational Therapist’s System on How You Can Become Great at Anything.” Believe the wisdom of the world is hidden in books. You must be an avid reader to discover these secrets.
Turns out that writing can also improve your ability to read.
You can download the electronic copy of the report called:
Writing to Read: Evidence for How Writing Can Improve Reading
This report was commissioned by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and published by the Alliance for Excellent Education.
Realized that former West Virginia Governor Bob Wise is the president of the Alliance. Glad to see him promoting reading and writing.
Social Network Training Course
Social networking online is the current wave. Believe it will be a wave in the future, too.
Peggy McColl talks about the power of these online networks in her book, "Viral Explosions." A message can spread like wild fire through these online systems. It had worked wonders in the area of book marketing.
As you probably already know, I'm the author of Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom. It is a self-improvement book on the importance of reading more books. I used tons of social networks to promote the book.
I have all of the major accounts: blogspot, facebook, myspace, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, Photobucket, Tumblr, my own web-site, DannyPettry.com, an email list that people can subscribe to. Of course all of my networks are geared towards recreational therapists and people seeking to improve their life.
--> Click Here to see a list of my Social Networks.
Please note that 95% of the profits made from my book were from online sales. Five percent came from direct mail marketing, which was expensive. It required print costs, postage, and more time. Online social networks are easier. People who enjoy your topic can re-post it for FREE. Amazing.
If you want to learn how to use social networks online to promote your business then you might want to take a training course.
Here is information on a course in Huntington, W.Va. that you may wan to take:
"Let's Connect - Social Media Boot Camp"
This boot camp is a one day, how-to workshop that will demonstrate the use and effectiveness of social media tools to build relationships with colleagues, clients and their communities. specialty certification
The National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) posted in their January/ February 2010 newsletter that:
NCTRC plans to award specialty certification in the following five areas of practice:
• Physical Medicine/Rehabilitation
• Geriatrics
• Developmental Disabilities
• Behavioral Health
• Community Inclusion Services
Think this is excellent for the advancement of the profession. Think it will help recreational therapists/ therapeutic recreation specialists to be better focused and prepared for their population.
I plan to pursue the Behavioral Health specialty certification myself. Not sure if I’d be eligible for the others at this time. My experience during the last 8 years has been working for a residential treatment unit for children at a psychiatric hospital.
My colleagues have specialty certificates for their fields.
Here is an example: some of our nurses have specialty certifications in psyche. The counselors have specialty certifications in treating addictions or sex offenders and other diagnosis.
New York Rec Therapy Licensure
Read in the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) winter 2010 newsletter that New York State TR Licensure Bill was introduced to the New York State Senate.
The next step is for the bill to pass and become law.
Think licensure of recreational therapists/ therapeutic recreation specialists is important.
We, recreational therapists work with people with serious mental illnesses, physical limitations, or other illnesses.
A person needs a license to drive a car
A person needs a license to cut hair
Naturally, I’d want a person who provides RT/ TR services to be licensed and certified if they were to ever provide services to anyone in my family.
Hope the licensure processes gets started in my state of West Virginia.
We’re having NCTRC talk at our West Virginia state conference in the fall of 2010.
Please email me if you’d like to present on state licensure at this conference.
Colonel Charles Dahnmon Whitt's Book
Believe reading is the key to succeeding. Wisdom is hidden in books, but you must be an avid reader to discover the secrets. My self-improvement book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom is about the importance of reading for personal development.
Danny’s Book Recommendation:
Met Colonel Charles Dahnmon Whitt at the Ohio River Festival of Books on Sat. April 10th.
Whitt is a native of Tazewell County, Virginia. He moved to Kentucky in 1970 to carry out his trade as a Sheet Metal Worker.
Whitt is now retired and he's had the opportunity to follow several of his passions. He's interested in genealogy and loves history and the civil war. While tracing his own family heritage, Whiit discovered his grandfather, David Crockett Whitt.
Colonel Charles Dahnmon Whiit decided to share the story, be writing, "Legacy, The Days of David Crockett Whitt." It is a short historical fiction. Most of the dates and places are accurate in hisotry.
Charles is a Kentucky Colonel.
Danny’s Book Recommendation:
Debra Gaskill is an award-winning journalist. She has covered stories on many things, including crime for the last 15-years. Debra’s first book, Barn Bruner, is murder-mystery. Debra had written this book as the thesis for her master’s degree in creative writing from Antioch University.
Debra Gaskill’s fictional small town of Jubilant Falls, Ohio reads as true as William Faulkner’s Jefferson, Mississippi.
As always, I admire people who use their talents to be creative.
Eliot Parker’s book, “The Prospect”
Believe reading is the key to succeeding. Wisdom is hidden in books, but you must be an avid reader to discover the secrets. My self-improvement book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom is about the importance of reading for personal development.
Danny’s Book Recommendation:
Eliot Parker is an Assistant Professor of English at Marshall Community and Technical College (Huntington, West Virginia). He’s also a Teacher Consultant with the national writing project and a literay reviewer with the Military Writers Society of America and Dorrance Publishing. He’s a fairly well-rounded person when it comes to English and writing. Personally, I want to take one of his writing courses because he’s not only a teacher, but he has written a novel. It is my goal to write a novel after completing my current book on becoming nice.
Eliot Parker’s book, “The Prospect” is about a fictional baseball team in West Virginia. It’s the story of their season. They have the number one pitching prospect. But beyond baseball, this is a story about family and community.
Lois Loehr Rini's book "The Beag: Doing Good in the 'Hood."
Believe reading is the key to succeeding. Wisdom is hidden in books, but you must be an avid reader to discover the secrets. My self-improvement book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom is about the importance of reading for personal development. Plus, there is a full chapter on the importance of “doing good” in the book.
Danny’s Book Recommendation:
Lois Loehr Rini’s children’s book, “The Beag: Doing Good in the ‘Hood” could be an excellent way to teach children the importance of developing character. The Beagle in the story does many nice things like brining the newspaper to people and visiting children at the homeless shelter.
Recreational therapists and others who work with children could use this book to teach values. Think the story could prompt some good discussions. Read this story to a child or a group of children and ask them: what did the Beag do? What did you like best about the Beag? How could you act like the Beag? Is there anything nice you could do before the end of the day? Have the child write on a sheet of paper what she (or he) plans to do before the end of the day. Here are some examples: help take out the trash, help wash dishes, help a sibling or do something else that is nice, like the Beag.
Glad to say that my little cousin Maddy got a copy of this book at the Ohio River Book Fair in Huntington, West Virginia with her own money.
Lois is from Indiana. I was pleased to tell her that I completed my graduate degree in Recreational Therapy at Indiana University.
Mary Calhoun Brown's "There are no words"
Believe reading is the key to succeeding. Wisdom is hidden in books, but you must be an avid reader to discover the secrets. My self-improvement book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom is about the importance of reading for personal development.
Danny’s Book Recommendation:
Mary Calhoun Brown is the author of “There Are No Words.” This is her first work of fiction.
The story is about a 12-year-old girl named Jaxon who is mute. Jaxon falls into a painting and travels back 1918 where she tries to stop a train wreck that had taken her grandfather’s best-friend. Amazingly, Jaxon is able to speak in 1918.
Recreational therapists and allied health practitioners who follow this blog would be pleased to know that Mary Calhoun Brown serves on the board for the Autism Services Center with a pioneer in the field, Dr. Ruth Sullivan. Think anyone who works with children with autism could benefit from reading this book.
"Mary Calhoun Brown has given us an unusual path in getting to the story of
autism. Young teenagers, their teachers and parents will be happy to have
this one in their library.”
Dr. Ruth C. Sullivan, former President of the Autism Society of America.
Coal Miner had Premonitions
Beleive that humans have access to more wisdom. Think we received premonitions from time-to-time. Here is an example:
Josh Napper was one of the coal miners who was killed in the explosion in West Virginia near my hometown of Beckley.
Napper had a odd feeling that something might happen.
Napper left a note with his family. This note was posted in an article by associated press writer John Raby. Raby reported that Napper had a feeling after being sent home early on April 2nd due to air problems with the mine. Here is what the letter said:
If anything happens to me, I will be looking down from heaven. If you take care of my baby girl, watch over (her), tell her all the good things about her daddy. She was so cute and funny. She was my little peanut. And Jennifer, I know things have never been the greatest sometimes, but I just want you to know I love you and I care about you. Josh Napper.
Time Travel Possibilities?
Some scientists at the University of California believe time travel is possible.
Wow. That is all I can say.
An article by John Brandon with Fox News was posted about these scientists on April 5, 2010.
I can’t explain how time travel is possible, but these scientists believe it is. And I have faith in their work.
I don’t need to know how electricity works in order to use it. As long as there is somebody alive who knows how to generate and produce it and make certain that our lights work and computers work. That is all I need.
My mind and time is limited. My mind can’t know everything there is to know in the world. My time on Earth is limited, too. I don’t have time to learn everything either.
I must make wise choices in how I use my time and what I learn.
The Quantum physicist Fred Alan Wolf is cited in the article. Enjoy hearing him talk. Wolf is featured in the hit underground documentaries The Secret and What the Bleep Do We Know and Further Down the Rabbit’s Hole.
Doc Brown from the movie, “Back to the Future” exists and his name is Fred Alan Wolf.
A cartoonish picture of Fred Wolf is featured on the cover of this book:
However, here is the book on time travel that you’ll want to read:
Have you read Scott Blum's "Summer Path?"
Believe great wisdom can be found in books.
As you’ll recall from my best-selling book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom: A Recreational Therapist’s System on How You Can Become Great, I said: “read a book a week."
My recommendation for the week is...
Scott Blum’s Summer’s Path.
This book was originally a best-selling electronic book.
It is NOW available in an expanded-edition hardcover.
I’ve already got my copy of the book as shown in the picture below. I put it on the book shelf in my home-office for this picture.
[regret to say the picture won't upload tonight]
Here is a brief preview of the book:
Summer’s Path presents the remarkable story of Don Newport, an engineer who comes face-to-face with his personal destiny under extraordinary circumstances. After losing his job and his health insurance, Don learns that he has a terminal disease, with only a few months left to live. On his deathbed, he meets Robert, a brazen angel of death who promises to help him with a graceful exit.
As Don prepares to say his last goodbyes to his loving wife, Robert attempts to change Don’s perspective about his mortality and proposes an exceptionally unique option.
Robert leads Don through an astounding meditation of life and death and reveals various healing and spiritual concepts, including walk-ins, embodiment, and soul destiny. On this magical journey of self-realization, Don discovers that it’s never too late to learn profound life lessons about ourselves and our loved ones.
Summer’s Path is the prequel to the best-selling book Waiting for Autumn. I've not read Waiting for Autumn yet. Glad to know that Summer's Path was the prequel so I can read Waiting for Autumn next! It had been on my list of books to read for a while.
I, Danny Pettry, consider myself to be a “Teacher-Healer.” There are many concepts from Blum’s new book that I find fascinating as a teacher-healer. These include:
Healing and spiritual concepts
Animal communications
Soul destiny
Magical journey
Self-relaxation
Lessons for life
This book is chockfull of wisdom. Think you’d be wise to read this book.
You can get it on Amazon here:
Help Children with Amputations in Haiti
There was a full chapter on "doing good deeds" in my book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom. Always pleased to to list volunteer opportunities or ways to do-good at this blog.
Recieved an email my good friend, Kim Grandal today about ways to help children with amuputations in Hati. This project makes me smile. Kim is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and the creative operator of Re-Creative Resources Site Online.
Here is what her email said:
Subject: Put a Little Love in Your Heart" for Haiti
NCCAP's very own Executive Director, Cindy Bradshaw, and her Executive Assistant, Kelly Bradshaw, will be flying to Haiti in July to help with the hundreds of children with amputations and other relief efforts. The trip will cost them each well over $1,000.00 for flight, ground transportation and supplies. Both ladies are volunteering through the Hands of Flight in Action organization .
NCCAP's Facebook Family would like to invite every Activity Professional and their facility to help join this cause! Through the month of May 2010, we would be delighted and would appreciate it very much if your facility would host a fundraiser to help with the cost of their trip/expenses. We are calling this fundraiser "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" for Haiti. As you know National Nursing Home Week is also in May and this is an excellent cause you could include during your fantastic week and what a better way for your resident's to feel part of something huge and for them to know that they helped to make a difference! You can submit your "Put A Little Love" event photos to us and we will post. And the facility that raises the most money and has it turned in by June 7th we receive an engraved award to display in their facility!!
Please also remember that they are also collecting flip flops of all sizes for the Haitians.
Once your fundraiser is complete
you may send a certified check or money order made out to Cindy Bradshaw
and in the "memo" line write "Haiti"
Address:
Cindy Bradshaw
c/o NCCAP 317
Office Square Lane Suite 202A
Virginia Beach, Va 23462
Any donations that are left after expenses will be given to the Hands of Flight in Action to be able to support their efforts for the Haitians.
If your facility doesn't want to support "Put A Little Love in Your Heart" for Haiti they may make a donation directly to them if they wish. The organization is also soliciting donations of any and all prosthetics to use for the parts to make new parts for the kids in Haiti If you would like more information on the Hands of Flight in Action please visit them at: http://www.facebook.com/l/bf11a;www.handsoflightinaction.org
Fun Way to Get Facts and Wisdom
Picture of my Snapple drink at my home office. Like the plants? Read in Richard Wiseman's new (2010) book that having plants in site increases creativity.
Reading is the key to discovering wisdom.
You already know this if you've read my book
Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom
Beleive that wisdom is hidden in books.
You must be an avid reader to discover these secrets.
My favorite motivational speaker, the late Jim Rohn who passed in Dec. 2009 had often said, "the book you don't read won't help you."
Reading the smallest thing can reveal wisdom.
The person who is not able to read will miss out on so much wisdom and knowledge.
That is why part of the profits from my book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom, went to the non-profit, First Book that provides free books to children at risk addressing one of the major factors regarding literacy: access to age approrpaite books.
Snapple's Peach Tea is one of my favorite drinks. Love it. of course you might not like this drink. Always enjoy the Snapple fun facts, too. They're listed on the bottom of the bottle cap.
Have had three Snapples in the last week. I was thinking that a person who couldn't read wouldn't be able to understand the facts on the bottom of the cap. This makes me sad. Want to help promote literacy. Maybe I should volunteer to help teach at the library during the evenings. Will look into that and get back to you.
Here are three fun facts that I had received within the last week:
Real Fact # 922: Maine is the only state with a one-syllable name.
Hmm.. must be the main state. My state, West Virginia has three syllables. It has one more than our good friend to the east, Virginia. Just count the syllables for this little town:
White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. 7.
Okay, here is real fact #788. The average person falls asleep in seven minutes.
Hmm... sometimes I can fall asleep that quick even after drinking coffee. Sometimes I struggle.
Think just lying down and doing some deep breathing and day-dreaming could help me to fall asleep faster. Staying up late on purpose could be my problem. Will try to fall asleep faster tonight (on time.)
Here is fact # 867: Franklin Roosevelt was related to 5 U.S. Presdients by blood and 6 by marriage. That fact is for now. Maybe he'll have a relative in the future to become President, too. You never know. I'm certain Teddy Roosevelt was one of them.
Oh, how I love the internet. Let me count the ways. One google search and here is what I found:
Genealogists have determined that FDR was related to: George Washington, John Adams, James Madison, John Quincy Adams, Martin Van Buren, William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor, Ulysses S. Grant, Benjamin Harrison, Theodore Roosevelt, and William Howard Taft (Click here for source). This source shows many more than six. How shall we find out?
I recommend Jean Edward Smith's book, FDR. Smith is a professor at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Smith will also be at the Ohio River Festivle of books. I plan to get a copy of FDR and have him sign-it. I'll be at the festivle, too, signing copies of my book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom.
Here is a link for FDR:
Da'Sean Butler and Bob Huggins.
Da'Sean Butler, a West Virginia University (WVU) basketball (forward) player was injured in the WVU - Duke 2010 Final Four Game. Hated to see Butler hurt or anyone for that matter. Butler had been hit in his head with an elbow earlier in the game. His head was bleeding. He had a serious knee injury during the second half. Video shown below. Butler was shown being taken out of on a little motorized cart.
Butler is good person. ESPN had said earlier in the game that he had completed more hours of volunteering than any other basketball player. They showed Bulter before the game, too. Butler was at the hospital visiting a woman who was elder. The woman had had a heart attack while watching the WVU - University of KY game in the elite eight. Butler heard about her and independently went to the hospital to see her.
Beleive Butler should be acknowledge more, so I'm writing this article about him. As you know from my book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom, I have a full chapter on doing-good. So, here my blog to acknowledge him. Brenda Quinn (2009, Feb. 1st) had written an article on Butler at Basketball Times Online. Quinn pointed out that Butler would be the first to volunteer to travel 40-mins. to talk to some kids. Butler has a good work ethic. He doesn't bring trouble to his team. He supports his co-players. Butler is a true West Virginian.
Admire Butler for his good deeds. Think he is a real all-star athlete because he is also a good person. tired of all the trash talking, mean-spirited, getting into trouble athletes that area always on the news.
Coach Bob Huggings is a good person, too. Think Huggins may have a healer personality in him. Watch the video.
