Yahoo news had a video of topic on “Extreme Parenting.”
Basically these children are not being schooled in the traditional manner.
In my book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom,” I suggested that children should have a block of leisure learning. This isn’t recess. This is a time when a child could participate in a leisure interest. Believe people learn more in during their leisure and through choices.
Don’t think that simply wasting time being idle is a good idea. Believe that child must be active in some activity during this leisure learning.
One person worried about her daughter staying up all night. Some people are night-people. There are many nurses, police officers, and wal-mart employees who work 11:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. The child may be a person who is more apt to be more productive during these hours.
Believe more people should follow their leisure and passions. Bill Gates dropped out of college to start Mircrosoft. But you know good and well that he had spent hours and hours dedicated to computers during his free time.
Many parents home school their child so they can participate in training for Olympics, acting in movies, etc. These children will perfect their talent in one area and could make millions. Believe the child should still have a back-up plan. An unexpected car accident could prevent the child from participating in training and world championship skiing.
Believe the best two parts of traditional schooling include:
1.) repetition of basic subjects: reading comprehension, ability to write, and solve problems (including math) throughout the years
2.) access to social interaction with peers.
What would you do during your day if you didn’t have to go to school as a teenager? Think I would have spent a lot of time skateboarding. Believe traditional schooling was best for me (but wish I did have a class of leisure learning or leisure education). Believe a class like this could help people to learn about their leisure interests and to follow their passions, which could be a full-time job.
Answer this question: If you could spend one full day in a great library studying anything you wanted: what would you read about? What would you go to learn about? This could give you some insight.
