Do you have a library card?

Do you have a library card?

If not, you need to get one.

Reading is so important.

My favorite motivational speaker, the late Jim Rohn said, "the book you don't read won't help you."

Walt Disney said, "There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island [all you have to do is read them.]

Abe Lincoln said something along the lines that a person who brings him a book that he has not read would be his friend.

I [Danny Pettry] beleive that wisdom is hidden in books (both fiction and non-fiction). However, you must read them to discover the secrets. I had written a self-improvement book called Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom. It was on the importance of reading. Part of the profits went to First Book, which is a non-profit group that provides books to children in need.

I was at the W.Va. Book Festival!

Here is a picture of my sister, my mother and myself at the Book Festival. I had a booth to promote my first children’s book, “Building Character with Sam, Izzy, and Many Other Dogs.”

Kanawha (pronounced: /kəˈnɑː/) is a county in West Virginia. The county seat is Charleston, which is also the state capitol of West Virginia.

Kanawha County is one of the main sponsors for the West Virginia Book Festival. So naturally, the Kanawha County Public Library was there.

Here is a picture of the Kanawha County book mobile in the Charleston Town Center where the Book Festival was held. I thought having that indoors was wild.

Here are some more fun pictures from the W. Va. Book Fair:

The Kanawha county Public Library has Teen Services. Teens can stay informed on programs, contests, new books and more. You can click the “like” button for their facebook page.

I [Danny Pettry] am a big fan of teen books. As many people already know, I didn’t read a full book until I was 18-years-old. I think catching up on reading is one reason I like teen books so much now.

I'm the author of a few books.

Need a book to read?

It's True: You Really Can Discover the Secrets to Anything And Here's How...

Read, read, and read if you want to succeed. That’s it. Books are filled with hidden secret wisdom.

However, you must be an avid reader to learn the secrets.

My book, “Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom” basically points out that a person should become a lifelong reader and booklover.

Here is a problem. Have you ever finished reading a book and felt disappointed only because the book was over and you didn’t know what else to read. I’ve felt this way after finishing a great book.

For The First Time, New Breakthrough System Reveals Must-Read Books for Anyone.

I was reading some magazine while waiting for a haircut yesterday. Right before my name was called, I saw an ad for an amazing web-page. Basically, you type in the last book you read and the author’s name. The web-site will generate a list of books that you’d probably enjoy reading.

Here’s the link: http://bookseer.com

I typed in one of my favorite all-time books, The Success Principles by Jack Canfield.

Bookseer recommended tons of books many which I had already read by my favorite personal favorite authors, including: Napoleon Hill, Joe Vitale, Wayne Dyer, Anthony Robbins, Mark Victor Hansen and others.

However, I did discover several must-read book that I was not aware of.

The top one on my list is: Instant Analysis by David Lieberman (another one of my favorite authors).
I was not aware that this book was on the market.

Several other book titles grabbed my attention, including: Mindset: the new psychology of success and beyond empathy.

I got three books for only $1.50!

A goldmine of books was at the Beckley Crossroads Mall today.

It was called the “First Annual Used Book Sale.”

For months, people had been donating their old books for this used book sale because 100% of the proceeds were going to benefit area school children thru newspapers in education.

All used books were $1.00 each. Some books were even .25 cents each!

This was a true goldmine for the booklover.

This sale will continue November 1st until November 8th. So, if you’re in the Beckley, West Virginia area you might want to stop by the Crossroads Mall and check this event out.

I purchased three books today for only $1.50!

I’m going to be giving them away as gifts to people (just for the heck of it). They’re not for the holidays, but just to give a gift.

The original prices on these three books were: $14.00, $5.50, and $5.50.

I saved $24 by going to this used book sale! Plus, they gave me some certificates for discounts at Borders Books!

As you already know, I’m a strong advocate for reading and literacy. I think more people should read books. This is a wonderful opportunity to get books at a great price. Plus, proceeds go towards helping children in the area.

Learn How to Read (with the help of a dog)

I just read an interesting article on CNN, titled, “Learning to read? Try talking to a dog.”

I’m very pleased to say that this article discussed my home state, West Virginia.

Children are learning to read by reading to therapy dogs. These dogs are also known as Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) This works because dogs offer unconditional acceptance. Children or people learning to read often feel embarrassed and judged when reading aloud to others. These dogs are perfect listners.

Jim Wilmth and his dog Bailey help with the “sit, stay, read” program at local libraries in West Virginia to help improve literacy. Naturally, I'm very pleased to hear this. As you may already knkow, the focus of my book, "Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom" was to promote literacy.

The article also discusses the health benefits of dogs, too.

I’m very pleased to hear about this program and Jim Wilmoth and his dog Bailey are now on my list of people to meet. I’m going to learn more about their program as soon as possible. I’ll upload pictures and more information to this blog for your enjoyment.

Danny's Book Tour: Stop # 1

Gift items that you'll receive from Danny Pettry on Oct. 24th 2:00 to 4:00 at library.

The Friends of the Library is on a mission to promote library membership. The Cabell County/ Huntington Public Library (located 455 9th Street Plaza, Huntington, WV 25701) will have several local authors selling and signing copies of their book on Sat. Oct. 24th from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. This will be on the third floor of the library.

Naturally, I’m very excited to meet a few local authors myself. I hope Jean Edward Smith, author of FDR will be there. However, I can’t confirm that he will be. Smith is a professor at Marshall University (Huntington, West Virginia). President Obama was said to have read FDR shortly before being sworn in as President. I’ll buy a copy of FDR, have Mr. Smith autograph it if he’s there.

I’ll have a few copies of my book, Discover Hidden Secret Wisdom: A Recreational Therapist's System on How You Can Become Great at Anything! on display there. This will be the first stop on my "Book Tour." Please note that I'm being silly when I say that. I do hope my next stop will be Oprah.

I won’t be selling my books at the library because my business is not set up to sell products. It’s a tax thing.

However, the first 50 to 100 people will get a “goody bag” from me. It’ll include the following:

1. Special $5 off discount coupon for my book
2. Access to download the introduction and chapter 1 from my book
3. Smiley face magnet
4. Smiley face button
5. One pencil and eraser
6. Two various colored ink pens
7. Sugar free candy
8. My autograph on sticker that you can apply to the front of your book.

9. Contest to win a copy of my book! But you must show up to sign-up and win!

I hope you'll make a quick stop to see my between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Sat. Oct. 24th.
