Greatness requires a person to have one thing first. She (or he) must know what it is that she wants to be great at. Some people call this a path to enlightenment or a small course in self-discovery. It is a process that a person takes to think about what it is that she really wants in life.
How does one discover what she wants? She could lock herself in a room until she realizes what it is that she wants. An easier solution would be to get a journal and answer many questions.
Who am I? This is question one. Continue answering this question in one-word or short answers. Set a timer for three minutes and write, write, write. Answers will sound like this: a son, brother, artist, good-person, volunteer, grandson, cousin, dog-owner, cat-owner, book-collector, visionary, reader, writer, painter, blogger, and so on. These answers will continue until the timer ends.
Do you need to discover who you are and what you want to do in life? If so, do the little activity above.
What are 100 things I want to do with my life? This is question number two for your self-discovery activity. It will take a little more time. Again, I recommend that you set a timer because people work better with deadlines. Set it for five minutes. Write as many things as possible that you can imagine. Write anything you've ever thought about doing or dreamed about doing. Write it down even if you think it is impossible. Your answers may sound something like this: visit Paris, own a Jag, write a book, own a coffee shop, retire by the age of 40, get a Ph.D., visit Hawaii, drive from Virginia Beach, Virginia all the way across the country to San Francisco, California. Make stops in all the different states.
You'll have a better understanding of who you are and what you want to do in life by answering the above two questions.
Do you want to be great in life? People who are great do great things. Discover what it is that you want to do in your life and go for it.
